It is recommend by the Ontario Dental Association that you routinely have your teeth professionally cleaned by a dental hygienist anywhere between 3 - 9 months depending on your dental needs. We will customize your dental cleaning routine based on your needs. It’s not “just a cleaning!” During your professional dental cleaning appointment, ultrasonic and hand instruments are used to disrupt and remove plaque and tartar to reduce the amount of bacteria in your mouth that cause disease. An evaluation of your gums (periodontal probing evaluation) will be performed anywhere between 3 and 6 months to better determine the health of your mouth and the best way to maintain this health, or help return your mouth to a healthy state. We will make recommendations for homecare, a maintenance schedule or possibly recommend Periodontal LASER Therapy to help improve your oral health.
Plus, at your “check-up” or recare visits, which are recommended anywhere between 6 - 12 months, your oral health is examined by the dentist. Your teeth are evaluated for cavities, failing or leaking fillings/restorations and broken or worn teeth (attrition & abrasion). If treatment is required it will be recommended at this time. An oral cancer screening exam will also be performed.
